Presence

Presence stands as a vital metric gauging a product's availability at a particular point of sale. This metric plays a crucial role in comprehending product availability and serves as the primary step in evaluating point-of-sale performance. A favorable Presence score signifies product availability to consumers, whereas a negative score suggests the product is unavailable. Regularly assessing Presence aids organizations in pinpointing supply challenges and making informed choices to enhance product availability and, in turn, the overall customer experience.

Usage example: In a planogram, it is determined that product X should be displayed with 10 faces. However, only 1 unit of the product was found. Thus, the product, even if in the wrong quantity, is recorded as present. Likewise, if the presence of the product is not identified, it will be marked as a missing product.

Out of stock

The Out of Stock indicator serves as the counterpart to the Presence Indicator and plays a vital role in determining the percentage of products intended for the planogram that are missing from the shelf during product display analysis. This metric focuses on the complete absence of specific products as outlined in the planogram, rather than incorrect product quantities. It highlights the percentage of the planned assortment that is missing from the product display, providing valuable insights into how well the point of sale adheres to the assortment planning.

Usage example: Suppose, according to the planogram, ten different products are present on the shelf. During analysis, if only seven such products are found, then there is an Out of Stock rate of 30%. This rate is calculated as: [(Number of out of stock products / Total number of expected products) x 100] = [(3/10) x 100] = 30%.

Invaders

In the context of AI and Image Recognition, the Invaders indicator is a metric used to identify and quantify products or objects that are not catalogued but captured in photos taken of a retail shelf. These are items that the AI detects in the image but are not part of the expected product assortment, according to the planogram.

Methodology: Image capture: Take a photo of a retail shelf.

AI Analysis: Allows AI to identify and label all products and objects in the image.

Intruder identification: Isolate and identify products or objects that AI has captured but are not part of the cataloged or expected product assortment.

Quantification: Count the number of intruders detected in the image to understand the extent of uncatalogued items present on the shelf.

Usage example: Suppose AI captures an image of a retail shelf and identifies 20 products. Upon analysis, it finds that 3 products are not part of the cataloged assortment. These 3 products are classified as invaders, indicating the presence of non-cataloged items on the shelf. This information helps in taking quick action to remove the invaders and ensure that the shelf displays only the cataloged and planned products.

Empty spaces

Empty Spaces is a metric used to identify and quantify the unoccupied or empty areas on a retail shelf where products should be displayed according to the planogram. This metric is crucial for analyzing the effectiveness of shelf space utilization and helps identify opportunities to optimize product placement and assortment to increase visibility and sales.

Methodology: Identification: Start by identifying the areas on the shelf that should house products according to the planogram, but are currently empty.

Quantification: Measure the dimensions of these empty spaces to determine the total unoccupied shelf area.

Analysis: Analysis of empty spaces in relation to the planogram and product assortment to understand the possible reasons for the vacancies.

Calculation: Calculate the percentage of empty space relative to total shelf space to quantify the extent of space underutilization.
